Individually Tailored Nonprofit
Internship
The core of the Internship Program is
an individually tailored nonprofit internship at a host organization
for individuals from Japan who are interested in socially
responsible careers and who have the potential to be leaders
in the newly developing nonprofit sector in Japan. Participants
can choose one of the three themes as their focus for 2001fs
program:
1. Nonprofit and Public Policy
2. Nonprofit Management
3. Nonprofit-Corporate Dynamics
Congruent with the mission of JUCEE and the goals of this
program which include bidirectional learning experiences are
the following key components designed for internship success:

1) Orientation & Internship
Crafting Session
This session provides our host organizations with hands on skills
and techniques which enable them to craft international internships.
Included is an introduction to contemporary Japan covering the
following topics:
- Japanese society and social activism in Japan
- Intercultural communication
- Overview of the Japanese nonprofit sector
2) Intern & Host Pre-Internship Joint Workshop
With JUCEE facilitation, host organizations and interns review
and fine-tune internship plans.
3) Welcome Party
A kick-off reception for the program with all host representatives
and interns in attendance.
4) Monitoring Interviews
With this interview early on in the internship, JUCEE gchecks-inh
with participants and hosts noting unforeseen challenges in
the internship.
5) Intern Exchange Day
To strengthen and increase their understanding of the Bay Area's
nonprofit sector and activities, interns will visit one another's
host organizations.
6) Evaluation Session & Farewell Party
The evaluation session allows both interns and host representatives
to share experiences, challenges and success stories with the
group as well as with the JUCEE staff.
7) Public Forum
In each program, participants are given the opportunity to share
their knowledge, experience and ideas on a particular social
issue that is of common concern to both the U.S. and Japan.

Programs
for Interns
- 4-Day Training Session on U.S. society, nonprofit sector,
and intercultural communication skills. Takes place at the
beginning of the Internship Program.
- Midterm Report Session to re-evaluate internship goals.
- One-Day Workshop to learn about issues of concern in the
U.S. nonprofit sector.
- Optional Tour designed to explore contemporary issues
in Californiafs social and environmental landscape.
