New Program Development
Launched in 1999, FCP is designed to build
lasting collaborations between Japanese and@U.S. nonprofits
working on issues of common concern. The FCP Program recently
held two Forums on Nonprofit Collaboration in Oakland, California
and Washington, D.C. The following joint projects and participating
organizations were showcased at the Forums in late October and
early November. FCP currently is planning for its 2001 program.

Ongoing
FCP Projects
- American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and Shanti Volunteer
Association (SVA) are exploring a joint protocol that will
allow for coordinated response between the two organizations
on disaster relief and other assistance programs internationally.
- AFSC and Hamamatsu NPO Network Center (N-Pocket) held
a series of events that will support their common interest
in immigrant labor issues and are developing long-term fundraising
and research plans to sustain their collaborative work.
- Children's Express (CE) and the Network on the Convention
of the Rights of the Child (NCRC) implemented a summer training
program for children from Japan who will become future leaders
in a CE bureau in Tokyo. Following a comprehensive training
by journalists in CE's New York bureau, these children participated
in an international team reporting on the U.S. Republican
Convention in Philadelphia for major media.
- SeniorNet and Sendai Citizens' Network for Seniors (SCNS)
have developed a platform for communication on the Internet
between U.S. and Japanese seniors.
- SeniorNet and Smart Valley Japan (SVJ) will jointly establish
a SeniorNet learning Center in Los Angeles to provide opportunities
in Japanese for Japanese-American and other senior communities
in LA to exchange ideas with seniors in Japan.
